Typhoo Wharf
Strategy, branding and marketing
With work underway, Typhoo Wharf is soon to become the new home of the BBC in the West Midlands.
Companies, like people, seek like minded communities to be a part of and to share their ideas and experiences. As the site develops and grows, Typhoo Wharf will become such a location, creating a community of like minded people who want a place in Birmingham’s rapidly evolving creative quarter.
The creative industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country and Digbeth, a once renowned manufacturing location, has become home to production, gaming and creative agencies, earning it the title of Birmingham’s creative quarter.
Digbeth is one of the most distinctive and coolest parts of Birmingham, made famous by its vibrant and iconic street art which adds colour and character to the neighbourhood. This location, and the creative audience it attracts, has been a key source of inspiration behind the brand.
The masterplan for the site takes into condideration the availability of natural light and the ease of movement through-out the site. Abstract lines and vibrant colour gradients are energetic and represent these considerations, with the gradual blend of colours suggesting progression and growth. When combined they create a strong brand graphic that encompasses the site and Digbeth through a visual representation of the spray from the paint cans and the vibrant colours used to create the street art.
The line is flexible, creating a bold and playful graphic that responds to the layout and allows every brand visual to be different. The line can be used with either the colour gradients or as an image mask to create unique and visually appealing designs that stand-out and grab people’s attention.
This bold, playful and energetic brand represents the bustling destination Typhoo Wharf will become and appeals to the creative community it aims to attract.
